A Family Adventure to Hong Kong

A Family Adventure to Hong Kong and Macau: Business, Memories & Magic

When Robb and I needed to travel to mainland China for business meetings with our company’s manufacturers, we saw the perfect opportunity: why not turn the trip into a family adventure? With a little planning and a lot of snacks, we packed up our crew and headed to Hong Kong.

A Game-Changing Flight Experience

The flight from the U.S. to Hong Kong is no joke—15 and a half hours in the air. Thankfully, we had saved up enough points to upgrade to business class, and that made all the difference. I was able to nurse and snuggle with our daughter comfortably, Hunter had his own seat (which he proudly claimed as his “movie throne”), and we kept a steady rotation of snacks and activities going the entire way.

Our travel bag MVPs?

  • Reusable sticker books (Amazon has some gems)
  • Color Wonder markers and coloring pads
  • Mini magnetic tiles
  • A goodie bag filled with surprises on rotation

We’ve learned the key to long flights with little ones is variety, patience, and snacks. Lots and lots of snacks.

Home Base: The Rosewood Hotel, Hong Kong

While Robb and I commuted to the mainland for our meetings, we kept the family settled in Hong Kong and were beyond grateful to have brought a wonderful babysitter with us. We stayed at the Rosewood Hotel, and I can’t recommend it enough.

The service was five-star, and the kid-friendly amenities were honestly next level. They offer fully converted playroom suites for children—yes, hotel rooms turned into magical play spaces. One had a blue, underwater theme with giant building blocks and ocean books. The other was more Montessori-style, with a wooden play kitchen, airplane, mountain décor, and lots of sweet adventure books. Our kids were in heaven.

The Rosewood is also connected to a beautiful mall with a huge kids’ area and even an interactive Lego store just a short walk away. We loved the hotel’s location—it made our city exploring seamless.

Hong Kong Highlights

One of the best things we did in Hong Kong was visit the Cup Noodles Museum, which was surprisingly fun and interactive for the kids. But two experiences topped the charts:

  • Hong Kong Disneyland – Seeing our kids light up at the parade, the rides, and the characters was pure magic.
  • Lantau Island’s Big Buddha – This was a full-circle moment for me. A decade ago, when I was a flight attendant, I would visit the Big Buddha during layovers. This time, I rode the cable car with Hunter and Harper, soaking in the same breathtaking views—but now as a mom. It was emotional and unforgettable.

Capturing the Moments

During our stay, we scheduled a family photo shoot. It felt special to capture this season—our third baby still in my belly, our two little ones adventuring beside us, and Robb and I balancing both business and family with (somehow) a smile.

A Nostalgic Detour to Macau

At the tail end of our trip, we made our way to Macau—a place I once frequented several times a year as a flight attendant. To be back there, but now with my kids, felt surreal.

We stayed at Wynn Resorts Macau, and it was wonderful. The hospitality, the pool, and the kids enjoyed the immersive experiences (from outer space journeys to safari adventure) the property is just amazing. More things we did that were fun & a walk down memory lane for mama in her former flight attendant days:

  • Visited Panda Park
  • Stopped at the original Lord Stowe’s Bakery
  • Strolled by the water through nostalgic spots

Real Talk: Travel with Kids

I want to be honest—traveling with little ones isn’t always glamorous. Yes, the Instagram moments are beautiful, but behind the scenes? There are big emotions, brutal jet lag (it took 3–4 days for the kids to adjust to the time zone), and unpredictable transitions.

But with the right mindset—staying flexible, lowering expectations, and packing well—it’s possible to make the journey joyful. For us, it meant:

  • Rotating snacks and activities constantly
  • Playing games like I Spy
  • Avoiding iPads (our kids have never used them so far), but allowing shows on our laptop or the plane screen when needed
  • Giving everyone grace, especially during meltdowns

Final Thoughts

This trip was such a gift—balancing business and leisure, creating lifelong memories, and revisiting places that have meant so much to me through the lens of motherhood. If you’re considering a trip with your little ones, I say: go for it. Plan well, embrace the chaos, and let the adventure unfold.

xoxo, Bre
